Teaching from a young age

To expand experience and widen exposure.

We started out totschool journey shortly before Adam’s 2nd birthday and we’ve continued with the process into preschool. It’s a beautiful way to  expose him to concepts, not to push early literacy or formal education early. It has always been an option not a necessity for us as a family..

When totschool changed

When totschool changed

Spring came, unfurling it’s opportunities to get out of the house and explore, it knocked our tot-school, upped our social life and lead letter Y and Z to spread their merge activities over more than a week each. With letter ‘Z’ now finished I...

Tot-school | Week 24 | Letter Y

Tot-school | Week 24 | Letter Y

This past week’s tot-school… …was deliberately sparse After a weeks pause we got back to tot-school light this week. We were childminding an extra little one every morning so rather than focus on just the letter we did morning activities and then I...

Tot-school | Week 23 | Letter X

Tot-school | Week 23 | Letter X

This past week’s tot-school… …was deliberately sparse The sun has arrived and we are taking full advantage. Every morning we go out either for a walk or just to play in the backyard space. The afternoons have been often outside too and all that...

Tot-school | Week 22 | Letter W

Tot-school | Week 22 | Letter W

This past week’s tot-school… …swam with whales Once again our week was sparse but it included some beautiful elements and we have some rather delightful crafts to show for our time. I’m equally aware as we dredge the end of the alphabet that W...

Tot-school | Week 21 | Letter V

Tot-school | Week 21 | Letter V

This past week’s tot-school… …rolled slowly across the finish line Letter V didn’t pick up the pace much after last weeks poor show, I’d say we got though roughly half of the possible material, and did no 3d craft. Van’s was clearly...

Tot-school | Week 20 | Letter U

Tot-school | Week 20 | Letter U

This past week’s tot-school… …was a damp squib After the last few weeks of R, S, & T the letter U came as a bit of a shock to the system. While the trusty umbrella dominated we attempted to add in the unicycle and ukulele but in all honestly...

The Car Wash

The Car Wash

“Oh no, it’s mucky, needs to go Carls car wash!” The phrase is as familiar in our house as can be, and even though Carl’s car wash is only one of many videos including car washes Adam has watched, somehow every car wash is Carl’s in his...

Tot-school | Week 19 | Letter T

Tot-school | Week 19 | Letter T

This past week’s tot-school… …was short and sweet This is a lovely part of the alphabet to be traversing, and we really enjoyed the letter T even if we only managed 3 days. The less structured ideas really shone through this week, pretending to pour...

Tot-school | Week 18 | Letter S

Tot-school | Week 18 | Letter S

This past week’s tot-school… …was s s s something. I found the letter S overwhelming, there were just so many things we could link to. On Monday, I had just finished the weeks paperwork when the computer crashed… stupidly I’d forgotten to...

Tot-school | Week 17 | Letter R

Tot-school | Week 17 | Letter R

This past week’s tot-school… …was rather enjoyable. I’ll admit it, I was looking forward to the letter R appearing, rockets and robots and rainbows are all such beautiful and bold things to work with. I must have mentally checked off 20 odd...

Tot-school | Week 16 | Letter P

Tot-school | Week 16 | Letter P

This past week’s tot-school… …was perfectly crafty. February rolled in with snow still one the ground, it was -6 outside on Sunday and it felt cooler, I write this the following Sunday in the balm of +12. The sudden shift combined with a few other...

Tot-school | Week 15 | Letter O

Tot-school | Week 15 | Letter O

This past week’s tot-school… …was our refuge. December and January are riddled with events for us, plans are only good until the next event approaches and messes everything up. This week ended in Slava, a Serbian Orthodox tradition that’s...
